Michael Pelletier & Jawhar Sircar inaugurate the exhibition ‘The Poetry of Purpose’
New Delhi: Michael Pelletier, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy, inaugurated the photo exhibition titled The Poetry of Purpose: A Portrait of Women Leaders of India by American photographer Mick Minard at Open Palm Court Gallery, India Habitat Centre on Wednesday evening. A book by the same title which Minard has co-authored with Dr Shashi Gogate was also released at the occasion by Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Secretary, Ministry of Women & Child Development along with Jawhar Sircar, CEO, Prasar Bharati.
Curated by art historian and cultural theorist Alka Pande, the exhibition depicts photographs of fifteen Indian women leaders across India who have been instrumental in improving the lives of ordinary people in extraordinary ways. Several women leaders featured in the exhibition and the book were also present on the occasion.
Those who attended the exhibition opening and the book release function included Michael Pelletier (Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy), David Mees (Cultural Counsellor, American Embassy), Vinay Sheel Oberoi (Secretary, MinsiteAlka Pande (curator), Pooja Sood (Director, Khoj Studios), Begum Nagad of Rampur, Arshiya Sethi (curator), Jagmati Sangwan (Gen Secy, All India Democratic Women’s Association and and former volleyball player), Anar Patel (Gujarat Chief Minister’s daughter and Co-founder of Gramshree and Manav Sadhna), Meena Bhati (Communications Manager, Educate Girls), Shailja Mehta (former Executive Director, Aangan Trust), Kamla Bhasin (Gender Trainer, Author, and Social Activist), Dr. Urvashi Sahni (Founding President and Chief Executive, Study Hall Educational Foundation, Lucknow) among many others.
